Ingredients

  • 2 cups shelled edamame 300 g, thawed if frozen or 2 cups edamame in pods (250 g)
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil 15 ml, optional
  • 1 to 1½ tbsp soy sauce or tamari 15–22 ml
  • Sea salt to taste

Optional Toppings

  • 1 tsp sesame seeds 3 g
  • ¼ tsp chili flakes 0.5 g
  • ¼ tsp togarashi 0.5 g
  • 1 garlic clove crushed (3 g)

Instructions

  • If using shelled edamame, thaw if frozen and pat very dry with paper towels. If using edamame pods, use straight from frozen or fresh.
  • Place the edamame in a bowl and toss with the oil and a pinch of sea salt.
  • Transfer to the air fryer basket in an even layer.
  • Air fry, stirring every few minutes with a spatula to encourage even browning.
  • About halfway through cooking, drizzle the soy sauce or tamari over the edamame and stir to coat.
  • Continue cooking until the edamame is lightly browned around the edges and hot throughout.
  • Finish with extra salt and any optional toppings. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Shelled edamame becomes crisp around the edges with a slightly chewy center.
  • Edamame pods stay tender inside with a lightly crisp exterior.
  • For the best texture, serve immediately after cooking.
  • I use the Our Place Wonder Oven in air fryer mode for this recipe.
