My Obsession With Overnight Oats
If you follow me on social media, you will know I am a big fan of overnight oats. I’m particularly a fan of blended overnight oats – the consistency is so gooey and it transforms oats into a delicious pudding. This whole obsession really started with my Cookie Dough Blended Oats which went viral on Instagram and TikTok reaching over 4 million views combined! I realized I was onto something and have since made lots of variations so we never have to get bored with breakfast. The other most popular recipes have been my Chocolate Blended Oats with Smash Top and my Raspberry Cheesecake Oats with White Chocolate Ganache.

Here’s a shopping list of everything you’ll need to make these Blended Blueberry Overnight Oats:
- Rolled oats
- Milk of choice (I use soy)
- Blueberries (frozen or fresh, or a combination. I blend the frozen blueberries but use fresh as a topping)
- Thick natural or Greek yogurt (I make my own soy yogurt as it is vegan, high in protein and very affordable and surprisingly low effort to make. But you can use any yogurt you’d like.)
- Vanilla extract
- Maple syrup (or preferred syrup – agave would also work)
- Salt
- Dark chocolate (optional)
- Coconut oil (optional)

Instructions
Making Blended Blueberry Overnight Oats is super simple and should take you about 10 minutes to prepare.
Step One: Add the rolled oats, milk, frozen blueberries, yogurt, vanilla extract, maple syrup (if using), and a pinch of salt to a blender.
Step Two: Blend until a mostly smooth, batter-like consistency forms.
Step Three: Divide the additional blueberries evenly among jars or bowls. Pour the blended oats mixture over the blueberries, smoothing the top with a spoon.
Step Four: Melt the dark chocolate and (if desired), mix in the coconut oil to thin the chocolate (this makes it a bit easier to crack into). Pour the melted chocolate over the blended oats, then set in the fridge overnight or for at least 90 minutes.
Substitutions & Variations
- Milk: You can use any milk you’d like. I prefer soy as it has the closest nutritional profile to dairy milk when fortified (read more about plant-milk fortification from Dietitians Australia). The recipe will work fine with any milk though. Almond, oat, or coconut milk are all tasty plant based options, or if you’re not vegan, dairy milk also works.
- Sweeteners: Maple, agave, brown rice syrup or honey (if you’re not vegan) would all work well in this recipe. You can omit maple syrup entirely if you prefer a lower-sugar option, or try adding a little bit at a time, then blending and taste testing until you’re satisfied.
- Yogurt: Again, I choose soy for its nutritional profile and I make my own yogurt from scratch (it’s only 3 ingredients and very hands off – much less effort than you’d imagine, I promise). But again, same as milk, you can use any yogurt to suit your dietary preferences and taste.
- Chocolate topping: This is a completely optional addition to the recipe to make it a little bit more decadent than regular breakfast. It still tastes delicious without this topping, so feel free to omit it. The coconut oil is also optional in the topping – if used, it helps to thin the chocolate so it is easier to crack the chocolate topping once chilled.
Storage
Store your oats in individual glass jars or airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Enjoy within the first 2 days for best texture and flavor. The vibrancy of the purple color will fade a little but it will still be fine to eat. If any separation occurs, or a little water pools on top it’s nothing to worry about – just mix it back in.
Expert Tips
Although you can eat these oats after 90 minutes, if you want an extra creamy texture, let them sit in the refrigerator overnight. This allows the oats to fully absorb the liquid and flavors.

No, you can still make this recipe without blending. It will just have a regular overnight oats texture that is not smooth. Instead of adding the ingredients to a blender, add them to a mixing bowl and mix thoroughly until combined, then follow the remaining steps.
Yes, both fresh and frozen will work fine.
Normally only a few minutes in the refrigerator, but you’ll want to leave this to set for at least 90 minutes for the oats to soak up the milk. It gets thicker the longer you leave it and more pudding like, so leave it overnight for the best results.
No, I don’t recommend freezing. There will be too much separation during thawing.
Variations
Now if you don’t have a blender, you can still make this recipe. It will be delicious, just with some extra texture. I still like to make my oats this way too for variety, like in my Apple Pie Overnight Oats recipe. It’s slightly chewier but in a satisfying way. Instead of blending, simply combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl and stir thoroughly.

Blueberry Oats
- 2 cups rolled oats (240g)
- 1/2 cup milk of choice (125ml)
- 1 cup frozen blueberries (150g)
- 1 cup thick natural yogurt or Greek yogurt (250g) I use soy
- 2 tsp vanilla extract (8g)
- 1-2 tsp maple syrup (or sweetener of choice) optional (10g)
- 1/8 tsp salt
Chocolate Shell Topping
- 80 gram dark chocolate melted
- 1/2 tbsp coconut oil optional – helps to thin chocolate topping
To serve
- 1 cup blueberries fresh or frozen
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients for the blended oats to a blender and blend until a mostly smooth, batter-like consistency forms.
- Divide the extra 1 cup blueberries between jars. Pour the blended oats mixture over the top and carefully smooth down the top.
- If using, add the optional coconut oil to the melted chocolate and mix until combined.
- Pour the chocolate over each container of blended oats. Seal and transfer the containers to the fridge to set overnight, or for at least 90 minutes.
