These Chocolate Blended Oats are one of my favorite make-ahead breakfasts that tastes like dessert! This version has a hard dark chocolate top so you get the satisfaction of cracking your way into your breakfast. Although this recipe tastes like dessert, it’s actually balanced and filling. When blended, oats turn into a gooey, batter-like consistency similar to a thick cake batter or runny cookie dough. A great option for meal prep, it can be made up to five days in advance.

This recipe is a variation on my popular Chocolate Blended Oats with Raspberry Chia Jam. If you love a tangy, tart raspberry flavor then that is also a must-try recipe. I love this base recipe and will alternate the toppings between this chocolate top and the raspberry chia jam to mix things up.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe

- Healthy Boost: Oats are a nutritious start to the day, and the added chia seeds in this recipe are a source of Omega 3s and fiber. If you are trying to boost your protein intake, you could also add a scoop of protein powder.

Instructions
One of the many reasons I love making oats for breakfast is because they are so easy. This recipe will only take 10 minutes from start to finish. You simply add all ingredients except the chocolate topping to a blender, blend until smooth, then top with melted dark chocolate.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to make your Chocolate Blended Oats:

Step One: Combine all Chocolate Blended Oats ingredients in a high-powered blender.

Step Two: Blend until smooth.

Step Three: The blended oats mixture will be a little runny at first but will slowly thicken to a batter like consistency as it sets.

Step Four: Divide the oats mixture amongst four jars.

Step Five: Top with melted dark chocolate. Seal and keep in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Step Six: When ready to eat, use a spoon to crack the dark chocolate topping.

Step Seven: Scoop out your blended oats and enjoy!
Substitutions and Variations
- Milk: This recipe will work with any kind of milk you’d like. My daily go-to is fortified soy milk because it is a good source of protein and has the closest nutritional profile to dairy milk.
- Omit Chia Seeds: This recipe makes a very thick, batter-like consistency. If you want something a little less gluggy, leave out the chia seeds.
- Add Protein Powder: If you have a protein goal you’re trying to hit, you could easily increase the protein in this recipe by adding a scoop (about 2 tbsp) of chocolate protein powder.
Equipment
A blender is key for achieving a smooth, thick batter. A food processor wonāt blend the oats as finely, leaving you with a chunkier mixture. If you don’t mind a bit of texture, a food processor can work, especially since the mixture will soften in the fridge over time.
I suggest using a high-powered blender like a Nutribullet for this recipe. It’s compact, easy to clean, and very affordable considering its power. I use mine daily for creamy sauces like Cauliflower Alfredo, smoothies, chocolate mousse, yogurt, cheese substitutes and more! If youāre into vegan cooking, you’ll find it incredibly versatile. If you have a less powerful blender, add a bit more milk or stop to scrape down the sides to help it blend.
Storage
These oats are not only delicious but also perfect for meal prep. Make a batch on Sunday and enjoy them all week long. Portion them into individual jars or airtight Tupperware containers for easy grab-and-go breakfasts. They stay fresh in the fridge for up to 5 days, as long as they are sealed tightly. Freezing is not recommended.
